INTRODUCING COLIN TIERNEY

I am an independent Consultant, an external lecturer for Warwick University, an approved contractor for a large Government Agency, an associate with two successful consultancy groups, and a published writer.  I am a founder member of the International Work, Information Society and Employment Forum. I am also a partner in Vision Management Systems - a limited liability partnership developing and marketing performance improvement processes in public sector organisations.  I have developed a broad portfolio of expertise during many years in Government and business. My principal interest is in change management and in particular, its human dimension.

I prefer to work with clients on a holistic basis, treating the human resource issues behind change as an integral element of business success. I tend to work less from a theoretical footing, than from a pragmatic application of tried and tested tools.

I am personally critical of consultancy which fails to deliver significant skills transfer. I do not consider it either ethical, nor in the long term interest of client or consultant, to extend a commission beyond the absolute essential. Clients have expressed a great deal of satisfaction at the added value by way of skills transfer which I have been able to facilitate. This adds to my personal satisfaction in knowing that not only has a job been done, but that the capability of the organisation, and the individuals within, has been enhanced.

I am proud to be associated with Warwick Manufacturing Group of Warwick University, for whom I lecture in Project Management and Risk Management for non-undergraduate learners. As well as organisational and personal consultancy I offer a range of current modules, which can be accessed as stand alone products or to be customised as per client's individual requirements. I am fully committed to my own development and I am currently researching the field of Teleworking. I am testing a hypothesis that notwithstanding the technical issues surrounding this topic, the human resource issue remains - the right people in the right place at the right time. To that end I am developing a diagnostic tool which will assist organisations and individuals to appraise aptitude for the particular demands of teleworking. I am also developing a Project Flowchart to aid implementation within organisations. TELEWORKING FLOWCHART
